Wynifred Clark

Wynifred Maxine (O’Neill) Clark, 90, of Elkhart, died Saturday, April 17, 2021 at her home.

She was born on December 10, 1930, the daughter of Maxwell and Floy (White) O’Neill.  She graduated from Goshen High School in 1948, and subsequently worked for the Goshen Telephone Company and Dr. Frederick Bigler.

She met and married John Wiley Clark in Goshen on June 2, 1957. The couple moved to Syracuse, New York and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where her son, Arthur John Clark was born on August 29, 1962. In that same year they moved to Silver Spring, Maryland, and she remained in the Washington DC area for 42 years.  She returned to live in Elkhart, Indiana in 2004.

Wynifred loved music and was a singer, often accompanied by her mother on the piano. She played saxophone in the Goshen High School Band and the Orchestra. She also sang in the Goshen High School Choir, in the 1 st Presbyterian Church Choir and the Goshen community choir, appearing in the local production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance . She loved opera and was a long-time supporter of the local opera station (WETA) in Arlington, VA.  She enjoyed attending the Kennedy Center.

Wynifred also loved animals and was a supporter of the National Zoo in Washington, DC. She was gregarious with numerous friends; it was clear that she never met a stranger.

She is preceded in death by husband, John Clark, son, Arthur Clark, brother, Jerry O’Neill, sister, Sharon O’Neill and brother, Verde D. O’Neill.

She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Joan Huffman O’Neill and Peg O’Neill Everingham; daughter-in-law Kelly Clark McBride (Shawn); nieces, Marta O’Neill and Kathy O’Neill Bollero; nephews, Tim and Jerry O’Neill; grandchildren, Dustin Clark (Katharine), Richelle Clark Pittman (Christopher), Samuel Clark (Marie), Ashley Clark-Young (Christian), Christian Clark; 10 great-grandchildren; and loving and devoted friend, Gene Hill.

A graveside service will be held in July.
