Winton D. Carroll, 75, of Palmetto, Florida, died on January 2, 2008, at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Florida. He was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana, on October 27, 1932, to Frank and Mary (Fielden) Carroll. He married Nelda Shannon on August 1, 1959, in North Carolina. She survives. A lifetime New Paris resident until three years ago, Mr. Carroll worked in assembly at Starcraft and Sea Nymph. He was a member of the New Paris Church of the Brethren. A 1950 graduate of Woodruff High School in Peoria, Illinois, he served with the Marines for nine and a half years in Korea. He is survived by his wife, Nelda; a daughter, Pamela (Thomas) Smith of Goshen; a son, Thomas Carroll of Bradenton, Florida; three grandchildren; two brothers, Russell (Ida) Carroll of Washington, Illinois, and Wilbur Carroll of Bartonville, Illinois; and three sisters, Mildred (Robert) Rhoads and Alice Deckard, both of Crawfordsville, Indiana, and Patricia (Lloyd) Young of Greenfield, Indiana. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Norman and Jesse Carroll. Friends may call 1 to 2 p.m., Saturday, March 29, at the New Paris Church of the Brethren. A celebration of life service will begin at 2:00 p.m., at the New Paris Church of the Brethren. Pastor Stan Godfrey of the church will officiate. Burial will be in Solomon Creek Cemetery, Syracuse. Memorial contributions may be made to Southeastern Guide Dogs.
