Winnie Ann Covington

March 30, 1936 — July 2, 2007

Winnie Ann Covington, 71, of Goshen, died early Monday morning, July 2, 2007, at her home after a two year battle with cancer.   She was born in St. Martinsville, Louisiana, to Samuel and Corine (LeBlanc) Melancon, on March 30, 1936.  She married Robert Covington on February 8, 1956 in Orange, Texas.  He survives.   A Goshen resident since 1960, Mrs. Covington retired from Johnson Controls in 1998 after 34 years of service.  A graduate of Mt. Carmel High School, she was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.  She was also an active member of the National Hikers’ Association.   She is survived by her husband, Robert; four daughters, Cynthia Ann (Roger) Woods and Carla (Dan) Oplinger, both of Goshen, Connie (Fred) Jacober of Genoa, Illinois and Lynn (Jim) Smith of Beverly Hills, Florida; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Debra Roger of New Iberia, Louisiana.  A sister, Willa Mae (Claby) Gary of New Iberia, Louisiana also survives.   She was preceded in death by three sisters, Olive Thibodeaux, Gernie Migues and Jeri Dean VonDette.   Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 3, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.   A 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 5, 2007, funeral service will be held at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Father Christopher Smith of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church will officiate and Matt Coonan will assist.   Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.   Memorial contributions may be given to Care at Home Hospice or American Cancer Society.
