Dr. William H. Zimmerman, 94 of Elkhart, died early Friday morning, July 2, 2010, at his home. He had been ill the last year. He was born March 27, 1916, in Fort Wayne, to Benjamin and May (Juday) Zimmerman. He married Gladys Opal DuMond on March 23, 1941 in Canton, Illinois. She died December 17, 2009. A resident of Elkhart County since 1959, Dr. Zimmerman graduated from New Paris High School, Indiana Central College, Indianapolis, and Manchester College, North Manchester. He received his doctorate from Indiana University. He worked as a general physician and surgeon from 1947 to 1985. A member of Sugar Grove Church, Dr. Zimmerman was an ordained minister in the United Brethren Church. He had served as chairman and board member of the Child Evangelism Fellowship. He is survived by two daughters, Esther Mae (Doug) Plodowski of Goshen, and Edie (Tom) Palmer Hamilton of Elkhart; a son, John (Kathy) Zimmerman of Grand Rapids, Michigan; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lula Zimmerman of Goshen. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Esther Zimmerman and Lois Kellogg. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 9, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. An 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 10, 2010, funeral service will be held at Sugar Grove Church. Rev. Cary Perdue of Send International and Rev. Rick Gerring of Sugar Grove Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to HCJB for the Engineering Department, PO Box 39800, Colorado Springs, CO 80949-9800.
