William “Bill” Kitson, 83, of Syracuse, passed away at his home on September 1, 2025.
He was born on November 8, 1941, in Kendallville, Indiana, the son of Melvin C. Schlotterback and Mary J. (Kitson) Schlotterback.
Bill was a graduate of Ligonier High School (1959), Manchester College (B.S. in Secondary Education, 1963), and Ball State University (M.A. in Chemistry and Physics, 1969).
On December 18, 1966, he married Jacklyn D. Caywood in North Webster, Indiana.
He began his forty-year teaching career at North Webster High School and concluded it at Wawasee High School. His passion for education extended beyond the classroom; he served as a Sunday school teacher at LifePoint Church in Goshen for forty years and held various other leadership roles there.
Bill cherished time with his children and grandchildren, especially enjoying yard games, table games, and shooting clays.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jackie; sons Matthew of New Paris and Andrew of Middlebury; “daughter” Shelley (Bryan) Holderman of Warsaw; grandchildren Allison (Jeff) Perkey, Brittany (Jake) White, Kade, Quinn, and Carter; four great-grandchildren; brothers Victor (Jan) Schlotterback of Dayton, Ohio, and Robert (Judy) Kitson of Syracuse; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 5, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 PM at LifePoint Church, 1006 S 16th St., Goshen, Indiana. A private burial will be at Cable Cemetery, Syracuse.
Memorial contributions may be made to LifePoint Church, Goshen.
The family is thankful for Dr. David Kay and his staff, Goshen Home Care, and Goshen Hospice for their special care and service.
