William "Jack" West, 79, of Goshen, died Tuesday morning, November 20, 2012, at Courtyard Healthcare, where he had been a resident for the past year. He was born December 29, 1932 in Cabin Creek, West Virginia, to Ted and Marie (Gilbert) West. On August 17, 1958 in Pearisburg, Virginia, he married Lucille (Bradshaw) Payne. She died September 9, 1996. He later married Bertha Evelyn Stover, October, 23, 1998 in Beckley, West Virginia. She survives. Also surviving is a son, William "Ted" West of Goshen; two step-daughters, Orvilla (Michael) Cardoza of Goshen and Vicky (Mike) Kimberlin of Millersburg; two step-sons, Thomas (Marguerite) Payne of Goshen and John (Patricia) Payne of Bremen; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; two step-sons, James and Franklin Payne; a brother, Jimmy West and two sisters, Nina Connett and Nada Wilfong. Mr. West has been an area resident since moving here in 1969 from West Virginia. He worked in maintenance at Western Rubber until retirement in 1994. He then worked for Maple City Security. Jack was an avid musician and loved animals. Friends may call 2 to 4, and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 23, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, where an 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012, funeral service will be held, with Rev. Fred Curry, of Full Gospel Community Church, New Paris, officiating. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen. Memorials may be made to the Elkhart County Humane Society.
