William J. Hartsough

William J. Hartsough, 98, of Goshen died Friday, May 24, 2019 at Greencroft Healthcare.

He was born November 20, 1920 in Elkhart County to William Otis and Lucretia E. (Hershberger) Hartsough.

On January 16, 1949 he married Mary Laverle Whitehead at Rock Run Church of the Brethren, Goshen.

She survives along with four daughters, Cindi Schmucker of Elkhart, Anita Hartung of Goshen, Kathy Cripe of New Paris and Lorie (Larry) Shroyer of Goshen; two sons, Maynard (Bert) Hartsough of Goshen and Douglas Hartsough of New Paris; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and five sisters, Opal Nichols, Thelma Kauffman and Ruth Stark, all of Goshen, Mary (Al) Cripe of New Paris and Velma Cripe of Cassopolis, Michigan.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis (Leek) Hartsough and daughters, Margaret and Judith Hartsough.

A lifelong area resident, Bill was a graduate of Millersburg High School and member of Rock Run Church of the Brethren, Goshen.  He worked for Smoker Craft, Inc., New Paris boat manufacturers in the wood working department.

He was a member of local canoe and snowmobile clubs and enjoyed bowling and fishing, which he continued to do into his 90’s.  He recently added weekly euchre games at Greencroft to his list of activities.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 29, 2019 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Rock Run Church of the Brethren, 64985 C.R. 33, Goshen where a 3 p.m. funeral service will be conducted.  Pastor Tim Waits will officiate.

Burial will follow at Rock Run Cemetery, Goshen.
