William F. Harrington, Sr.

William F. Harrington Sr., 94, of Goshen passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Courtyard Healthcare where he had resided the past few months. He was born on April 15, 1921 in Hillsdale, Michigan, to Justus H. and Myrtle (Bell) Harrington. On June 8, 1941 he married Annetta M. Copenhaver at the First Congregational Church in Goshen. She died January 24, 2015. Surviving are two daughters, Teri Yoder and Debi Snook, both of Goshen; three sons, William F. "Bud" (Linda) Harrington Jr., of Mishawaka, Larry (Kathy) Harrington, of Visalia, California and Patrick (Linda) Harrington, of Elkhart; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; five foster great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Bettie Freel, of Elkhart. Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by sisters, Charlotte Anuiles and Evelyn Buckmaster, and a brother, Richard Harrington. A 1939 graduate of Elkhart High School, William served from Nov. 1944 through Jan. 1946 in the U.S. Army in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and Philippines Liberation campaign of WWII. He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Goshen; the Moose Lodge; Goshen Historical Society; 32nd degree Scottish Rite; V.F.W. Post 985; American Legion and D.A.V. Bill worked as a millwright for Continental Can for 29 years and was a U.S. Postal carrier for another 17 years. He also served as a Boy Scout Leader for more than 60 years along with being a docent at the Elkhart County court house in Goshen. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 21, 2015 and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. Monday, June 22, 2015 funeral service, all at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Goshen Historical Society.
