William "Bill" J. Bloss, 79, of Goshen, died early Wednesday morning, May 9, 2012, at IU Health Goshen Hospital after battling melanoma since October 2011. He was born September 1, 1932 in Goshen to the late Lewis R. and Magdalena (Vander Reyden) Bloss. He married Martha J. Haney November 26, 1954. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Sue Ann (Dennis) Glasgow of Simpsonville, South Carolina, and Marcia Lynn (George) Christner of Goshen; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Mr. Bloss graduated from Goshen High School in 1950 and started the Alumni Reunion for GHS graduates that is held every September. A member of First English Lutheran Church, Mr. Bloss was an active member of the Goshen community. He served as city councilman from 1976 to 1991 and 1996 to 2007, president of Campfire, Elkhart County 4-H Fair president in 1981, and on the Goshen Planning Commission. He served on the Greencroft Foundation Board until 2011; was the current president of the Goshen Hospital Auxiliary Board and current president of the Celebrate America Committee where he had volunteered since 2006. He was a 50 year member of the Goshen Masonic Lodge #12 and a member of the Goshen Jaycees from 1955 to 2002 where he had also served as state chairman. He also volunteered as a Red Coat at IU Health Goshen Hospital. He received both the Bud Beller Community Spirit Award and the Golden Deed Award in 2009. Bill served with the US Army during the Korean War in Germany. Bill, along with his wife, Martha, owned and operated Bloss Monuments, Inc. from 1981 to 2005. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 11, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and a half hour prior to the 10 a.m., Saturday, May 12, 2012, funeral service at First English Lutheran Church, Goshen. Pastor Gene Hollingsworth will officiate. Burial will follow in Benton Lutheran Cemetery, Goshen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First English Lutheran Church or Goshen Hospital and Healthcare Foundation for the Auxiliary or the Cancer Center.
