Fishers – Loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, William “Bill” Joseph Karn, 79, formerly of Goshen, died Sunday, November 1, 2026.

He was born November 24, 1946, in Elkhart County to Joseph E. and Barbara J. (Gilmore) Karn, who preceded him in death.

On January 26, 1969, he married Cynthia (Cindy) Harroff in Elkhart. Bill and Cindy met in seventh grade where he declared to his best friend: “I’m going to marry that girl someday.” She survives along with daughters, Alicia (David) Vega, Excelsior, Minnesota and Samantha Karn, Fishers; four grandchildren, Leta, Naomi, Elijah and Layla. Other survivors include sister, Patricia (Ira) Kauffman, Goshen, and brother, Robert (Christina Laukaitis) Karn, Champaign, Illinois.

Bill graduated from Concord High School in 1965 and from Indiana University-Bloomington in 1969. While there he participated in Army ROTC and after graduation went to Washington D.C. as a military police officer. He served in the U.S. Army, in Vietnam from August 1971-February 1972. Upon returning from service, Bill worked for Ivy Terrace in Goshen. Following the death of Henry Pederson, Bill’s mentor and friend, he and Cindy moved to the Upper Peninsula of MI to work for Lloyd Flanders. They eventually made their home in Goshen where they raised their girls and Bill had a successful career as an independent sales representative.

In his spare time, Bill served as president of Alicia and Samantha’s swim team, played guitar, built model airplanes, was passionate about antique furniture and poster art, cheered on the Indiana Hoosiers, and enjoyed traveling with Cindy and friends. He could make friends anywhere he went and had an infectious laugh. In his later years, Bill enjoyed spending time with grandkids, attending their various activities. He was a Member of Goshen Tyrian Lodge #12, South Bend Scottish Rite and Goshen VFW Post 983.
