William Evan Ackley, Sr.

William Evan Ackley, Sr., 82, of Goshen, died Tuesday morning, April 2, 2013, at I.U. Health Goshen Hospital. He was born January 17, 1931 in Gary to Thamer and Sadie Ackley. He married Sharon Barrett January 14, 1961. She died October 30, 1992. He is survived by two daughters, Vicki Ackley of Elkhart and Cyndie (Jeff) Burt of Goshen; a son, William Ackley, Jr. of Georgia; seven grandchildren; and a brother, Carroll Ackley of Portage. He was preceded in death by a brother, Maynard Ackley and a sister, Beth Wagner. A Korean War veteran, he served with the U.S. Navy in Japan. A member of VFW Post # 985, Mr. Ackley enjoyed camping, fishing, boating and Bluegrass music. Friends may call from noon until 2 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home before going in procession to Violett Cemetery for a 2:15 p.m. graveside service. Brad Price, Goshen Church of Christ, will officiate. Memorial contributions can be made to the family in care of Yoder-Culp to help with funeral expenses.
