Wilbur Brookins

April 18, 1918 — January 25, 2007

Wilbur Brookins, 88, of Goshen, died Thursday morning, January 25, 2007, at The Maples at Waterford Crossing.   He was born April 18, 1918 in North Manchester, Indiana, to Alfred and Alma (Knoop) Brookins.  He married Fern Yoder on November 18, 1939 in New Paris.  She died February 14, 2005.   A farmer and an electrician, Mr. Brookins was a member of the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren.  He had also served on the New Paris Telephone Board for 20 years and on the Federal Land Bank Board.   He enjoyed woodworking in his retirement years.   He is survived by three sons, Ronald (Barbara) Brookins of New Paris, Richard (Julia) Brookins of Goshen, and Douglas Brookins of Tippecanoe; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Willodean (John) Vanator of Phoenix, Arizona.   He was preceded in death by his wife, Fern; five sisters, Opal Yoder, Bertha Martin, Blanche Krumanaker, Juanita Noel and Katherine Cripe; and four brothers, Joe, Don, Ralph and Paul Brookins.   Friends will be received 3:30 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, January 28, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and 9 to 10 a.m., Monday, at Maple Grove Church of the Brethren.   A 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 29, 2007, funeral service will be conducted at the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren.  Rev. Dwayne Runkle, pastor of Maple Grove and Rev. Otto Beer, retired pastor and family friend, will officiate.   Burial will be in Whitehead Cemetery, New Paris.   Memorial contributions may be made to the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren.
