Wendy Lynn Nelson

Wendy Lynn Nelson, 62, of Middlebury, died Thursday, January 26, 2023 at her home.

She was born October 4, 1960 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, to Ronald W. and Jacqueline A. (Reidel) Nelson.

Wendy is survived by her brother, Dr. Christopher (Jennifer) Nelson of Fishers; two nephews and two nieces, Alex, Hannah, Serah, and Jack; four cousins, Mark, Tracy, Nora, and Dori; and a host of friends and co-workers that will miss her bright spirit.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, David H. Nelson.

Wendy was a 1978 graduate of Gilbert High School, Gilbert, Iowa. She lived in Spirit Lake, Iowa, for two decades before moving to Middlebury in 2002 to be closer to her nieces and nephews.

Wendy laid down her roots in Middlebury when she started working at Rulli’s Italian Restaurant, where she quickly found herself at home and grew to be loved by so many. Later, she began working as a patient services representative at OSMC. Initially treated there as a patient, she was so touched by the compassionate care she received that she elected to be brought on as an employee and adopted into the OSMC family, where she was adored and beloved by all.

Wendy was an avid animal lover - particularly of dogs - and often spent her free time dog sitting for her neighbors, friends, and other locals in the area. She also enjoyed going to trivia at Rulli’s every Wednesday night, where she was a force to be reckoned with!

Wendy was always smiling, and her personality would naturally draw people in. She was a free spirit and an old soul. She had an extremely big heart and generous nature, always putting others before herself and never thinking twice about it. She had the most wonderful, booming laugh that carried and spread into the hearts of everyone who heard it - you couldn’t help but laugh along. It was infectious. She never ran out of the warmest, tightest hugs to give, and above all, her love for everyone in her life knew no bounds - especially her love for her family. She never stopped talking about her family. Even in the great beyond, her love for them will always live on, and she will always be so very loved in turn.

Cremation has taken place at Yoder-Culp Crematory.

There will be a memorial service held in Wendy’s memory at Rulli’s Italian Restaurant, 851 US-20, Middlebury, IN, 46540, on February 12th from 2-4 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to any animal charity of your choice.
