Wayne D. Sommers, 92, of Goshen, passed away at his home Wednesday afternoon, August 19, 2015. He was born October 23, 1922 in Miami County to Noah and Esther (Strebin) Sommers. On February 15, 1942 he married Susie Keim in Kokomo. She died January 7, 2008. Mr. Sommers is survived by two daughters, Lorraine (Glenn) Reinford of Goshen and Fern (Dale) Delagrange of Spencerville; three sons, Wayne Arlee (Julia) Sommers of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Darrel (Karen) Sommers of Goshen and Dallas (Susan) Sommers of New Stanton, Pennsylvania; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Darlene (Wayne) Miller of Bunker Hill; a brother, Byron (Viola) Sommers of Kokomo; and a sister-in-law, Martha Sommers of New Paris. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; two sisters, Lois (Raymond) Martin and Miriam (Pete) Bontrager; and two brothers, Dale and Darlton Sommers. An area resident since 1955, Mr. Sommers was a farmer and an active member of Waterford Mennonite Church. He volunteered for 20 winters at the Rio Grande Bible Institute, Edinburgh, Texas. Locally he volunteered at the World Missionary Press and the MCC Resource Center at The Depot. Friends may call Saturday, August 22, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Friends may also call on Sunday, August 23, 2015 from 2 until the 3 p.m. funeral service at Waterford Mennonite Church. Pastors Velma Swartz and Lyle Miller will officiate. A family graveside service will be held Monday, August 24, 2015 at Violett Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be given to World Missionary Press or Goshen Home Care and Hospice.
