Wayne E. “Pete” Miller, 71, of Goshen, died late Friday evening, February 6, 2009, at The Maples. He was born March 9, 1937 in Goshen, to Emory and Zelpha (Grosse) Miller. He married Peggy Clapacs on February 4, 1961 in Goshen. She survives. A lifelong resident of the area, Mr. Miller had worked for more than 30 years as sales manager for Sorg Dodge. Prior to that he had worked as a barber at South Side Barber Shop. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, The Elks Club, Lodge #798, the VFW, Post 985, Maplecrest Country Club, and a former member of the Goshen Moose. A 1955 graduate of Goshen High School and a graduate of Indiana Barber College in Indianapolis, Mr. Miller was a loyal volunteer at the Elkhart County 4-H Fair for many years. Along with his wife, Peggy, he served as Grand Marshal of the 2004 4-H Fair Parade. A Navy veteran, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, gardening, playing cards, attending his grandchildren's activities and being with friends. He was an avid Indiana University fan and enjoyed vacationing in Kauai with his wife every other year. He is survived by his wife, Peggy; two daughters, Shelley (Jim) Miller of Goshen, and Lori (Mike) Tangney of Arlington Heights, Illinois; two sons, Tim (Monica) Miller of Goshen, and Greg Miller of Pendleton, Indiana; seven grandchildren; and a brother, Mike (Linda) Miller of Goshen. He was preceded in death by a brother, Phil Miller. Friends may call 1 to 4 p.m. And 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, February 10, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and 9 to 10 a.m., Wednesday at the church. A funeral mass will begin at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday February 11, 2009, at St. John's with Father Christopher Smith and Father John Delaney officiating. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church or Elkhart County 4-H Fair.
