Warren E. McGinnis, 91, of Elkhart, died at noon on Friday, May 25, 2007, at Beverly Living Center. He was born December 4, 1915, in Mason City, Iowa, to Everett and Rachel McGinnis. On May 1, 19179, he married Roxanna Risdon, in Elkhart. She died February 25, 2006. Mr. McGinnis worked in the switchyards for the railroad in Elkhart. He also worked as a custodian for the Elkhart Community Schools and Elkhart General Hospital. He was a World War II veteran and received numerous awards including the European Theater Medal, the Asia Pacific Theater Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Marksman medal and the WWII Victory Medal. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. Post #985. Mr. McGinnis was very active in baseball. He played for the Shamrocks and played into his 70’s. He also umpired for many years. He is survived by a daughter, Linda (Terry) Appleby of Round Lake, Illinois; a step-son, James (Denie) Miltenberger of Sebring, Florida; grandchildren, Melissa (Tom) Darovic of Poplar Grove, Illinois and Randy (Susan) Appleby of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; step-grandchildren, Roxanne (Daniel) Weiss of Goshen and James L. Miltenberger, Jr. and Billi (Dennis) Beery, both of Elkhart; and a great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Roxanna; and two sisters. Friends will be received 12 to 1 p.m., Monday, May 28, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 28, 2007, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Rev. Jon Hueni of the Grace Fellowship Church, Bremen, will officiate. Burial will be in Miller 8 Square Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.
