Warren D. Leichty

d. February 1, 2010

Warren D. Leichty, 71, of Goshen, died Monday evening, February 1, 2010, at Rivercrest Specialty Hospital in Mishawaka, where he had been since January 18, 2010. He was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio, on March 4, 1938, to the late David Franklin and Helen Dorothy (Yoder) Leichty.  A Goshen resident since 1955, Mr. Leichty began his employment with Fidler's Ready-Mix in 1962, retiring in 1998 as Vice-President of Operations after 36 years of service.  A 1957 graduate of Bethany Christian High School, he was a true outdoorsman, especially enjoyed freshwater fishing at so many different sites across the United States and Canada, his favorite destinations were fishing trips to Colorado and Upper Ontario, Canada.  Anyone, even the most-accomplished wilderness traveler, would learn so many subtleties of wilderness ethics and woodland lore on expeditions with Warren into the backcountry.  He was always willing to share from his broad knowledge of fishing, hunting, and wilderness travel with those less-experienced; and he did so in a remarkably generous and yet humble manner.  Warren was an accomplished craftsman, dedicating his many acquired skills to every endeavor.  He received great reward and satisfaction from helping others.  Warren was always one who could be depended upon at any time of need by his family and many friends.  He was very warm and loving in all his relationships with friends and family.  Warren was an especially caring and loving father and grandfather. He is survived by two daughters, Monica (Tim) Miller of Goshen and Michelle Griffin of Dallas, Georgia; two grandsons, Joey and Jackson; three sisters, Genevieve (Earl) Schwartzentruber and Delia (Ed) Herr, both of Goshen and Evelyn (Michael) Hostetler of San Diego, California; and special companion and friend, Myrna Beachy. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel B. Leichty and David E. Leichty, Jr. and a sister, Katherine Lou Mullet. Friends may call 10 a.m. to 12, noon and 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, February 5, at the funeral home. A 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 5, 2010, memorial service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Pastor John vonLackum will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be given to Elkhart County Humane Shelter or Rivercrest Specialty Hospital.
