Wanda S. Callahan

Wanda S. Callahan, 90, formerly of Goshen, died early Saturday morning, May 30, 2015 at Miller's Merry Manor, LaGrange. She was born June 9, 1924 in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania to Charles Francis and Lulu Ethel (Johnston) Luce. On Aug. 11, 1945 she married Francis W. Callahan in New Brighton, Pennsylvania. He died February 18, 1992. Survivors include two sons, Jerry (Christina) Callahan and Jim Callahan, both of Goshen; five granddaughters and eight great-grandchildren. Along with her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother. A lifelong learner, Wanda was a 1942 graduate of Burgettstown High School, a 1965 graduate of Goshen College and received her master's degree in special education from St. Mary's College, Notre Dame in 1967. She also attended Elkhart and Bethany Seminaries and was ordained as a Church of the Brethren minister in 1976. Her career included 11 years as a special education teacher for Goshen Community Schools and Church of the Brethren pastorates with Goshen City; Jacksonville, Florida; Cedar Creek and Wawaka. She was also very active in prison ministries for 20 years. Cremation has taken place and a Sunday, June 7, 2015, memorial service will be held at Goshen City Church of the Brethren starting at 5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to United Cancer Services of Elkhart County.
