Walter E. Woodlee, 87, of Bristol, died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home, Wednesday, April 5, 2023.
He was born April 19, 1935 in McMinnville, Tennessee to James and Oshia (Stoner) Woodlee.
He is survived by three children, Bill (Bonnie) Woodlee of Elkhart, Doug (Rita Smith) Woodlee of Barbourville, Kentucky and Sue Shaer of Middlebury; nine grandchildren, Crystal Woodlee, Kara (Preston) Woodlee Budd, Zachary Woodlee, Jennifer Brown, Jamie Jones, Douglas and Christopher Woodlee, Stormy Melvin and Ryan Alden; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by both of his wives, Janice and Cheryl; a grandson, Matthew E. Woodlee and five siblings, Hobart, Marguerite and Irene Woodlee, Pauline Campbell and Lena Ferguson.
Mr. Woodlee owned and operated Society Kennels where he trained dogs for field competitions. Along with his son Bill, he also trained horses. At one time he owned a Shell station on the corner of Jackson and Prairie Street, Elkhart.
A man with many interests, he raced super modified cars at local tracks, was a member of the Wyatt Coon Club, and took great pride in the three gardens he planted year after year.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 10 a.m. until the 12 p.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Jim Looney, House of Prayer, Goshen, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given Goshen Home Care and Hospice.
