Walter Ray Slabaugh, 84, died March 17, of Palm Coast, Florida, at Sabal Palms Assisted Living and Memory Care after a tough battle with dementia.
He was born February 6, 1940 in Warsaw to Perry T. and Clara (Schrock) Slabaugh.
On May 12, 1962, he married Miriam Bauman in Goshen. She died February 27, 1995.
He is survived by two children, Dallas (Shannon) Slabaugh of Palm Coast, Florida and a daughter, Denise (Noah) Bower of South Bend; two siblings, Rosemary (Ron) Gardner and Phil (Esther) Slabaugh; four grandchildren, Halie Slabaugh, Jeremiah (Haley) Bower, Christina Lemelin and Matthew Bower and a great-granddaughter, Mallory Lemelin.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Jerry Slabaugh.
Dr. Slabaugh attended Goshen College and earned a PhD in Plant Pathology from West Virginia University in 1973. He worked as a plant pathologist for several companies and taught for the University of Arkansas, Monticello.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 30, 2024 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.
Burial will follow the visitation at Clinton Brick Cemetery.
