Walter C. Pressler

Walter C. Pressler, 101, of Shipshewana, died Friday evening, June 12, 2009, at Elkhart General Hospital where he had been a patient since June 7. He was born in Ashtubula, Ohio, on June 8, 1908, to Charles and Eva (Edmonds) Pressler.  He married Ruth Weiker on August 9, 1942 in Perrysburg, Ohio.  She preceded him in death on June 20, 2004. A resident of the area since 1953, Mr. Pressler worked as an independent sales representative for George S. May Business Analysis Company.  He also owned his own hatchery and other businesses including a gravel processing plant.  He was a World War II army aircorp veteran.  He was a private pilot who owned planes.  He enjoyed reading, studying and being involved with his children. He is survived by two daughters, Marietta (Eric) Comer of Elkhart, and Rose Ann (Art) Phend of Fresno, California; four sons, Paul, David and James Pressler, all of Goshen, and Walter (Norma) Pressler, Jr. of Fort Wayne; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lillian Reynolds and Estella Binkley, both of Freemont, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; a daughter, Bonnie Jean Pressler; and two sisters, Flossie Suffacool and Anna Fowler. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 16, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. An 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 17, 2009, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  His son, Walter Pressler, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to the Goshen VFW.
