Walter J. Mast, 74, of Goshen, died Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at Goshen Hospital.

He was born May 23, 1946 to Edna (Schmucker) and Christ T. Mast in Goshen.

Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Mast of Aurora, Colorado and Debra (Keith) Mast of Goshen; two grandsons, Dustin (Samantha) Mast and Tyler (Olivia) Mast; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Miriam (John) Reist of Salina, Oklahoma and Ruth Hunt of Mishawaka; a brother, Norman (Miriam) Mast of Middlebury; longtime companion, Jeannine Talley of White Pigeon, Michigan and former wife, Carrie Martin of Bristol.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a beloved son, Jason Mast; brothers, Lamar, Omar, and Larry Mast and a sister-in-law, Susan Reist Mast.

A much-cherished father and friend, Wally taught us much about hard work and leading by example.  He was always quick to lend a helping hand to friends and strangers alike and was well known and thought of throughout the community. He worked as a lead machine operator in the block shop at Fidler’s for almost 42 years and retired in 2005.

Public visitation will be on Monday, December 21, 2020, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  A private funeral service, officiated by a cousin, Hubert Schmucker, will follow, with burial at Elkhart Prairie Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to the American Lung Association.
