Wallace S. VanHook II, 74, of Goshen, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Friday, May 3, 2019.
He was born September 20, 1944, in Goshen to Wallace Samuel and Dorothy Mae (Eggleston) VanHook.
On May 29, 1965 he married Mary Hardesty in Goshen.
She survives along with three children, Renata (David) Balser of Elkhart and Wallace (Joetta) VanHook, III and Susan (Roger Kyle, both of Goshen; eight grandchildren, Holly (Joe) Cutter, Lesta (Travis) Fry, Jennifer VanHook, Jeannie (Marvin) Petry, Brian (Shawna) VanHook, Trisha and Wendy Pierce, Rene (Cam) Hite and 14 great-grandchildren, Skyler, Lily and Ian Cutter, Braxton and Blake Schuh, Emma VanHook, Ruth Petry, Paislee, Hunter and Colton VanHook, Monica Pierce, Mason Brandon, Ella Weaver and Lilah Hite.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Sharon Felton and Caroline “Peach” Matthews and brothers, William, Herold “Bitty” and Stanley VanHook.
He attended Goshen High School and then served in the US Army as a cook from 1961 to 1973. He worked for Goshen Iron & Metal (now Omnisource) for 20 years as a truck driver until he became disabled with Guillain Barre Syndrome in the fall of 1995,
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and riding around town on his scooter. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2019, and Wednesday from 12 until the 1 p.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Rev. Terry Tyler will officiate.
Burial will follow in West Goshen Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Goshen Home Care and Hospice.
