Waldemar “Walter” Zeiger, 78, of Goshen, died Monday at 5:30 a.m., at Courtyard Healthcare of Goshen. He was born July 9, 1930 in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine, to Hieronymus and Dorothea (Falko) Zeiger. He fled to Germany in 1947 during World War II. He came to the US in 1952, settling in Aliquippa, Penn, where he met his wife. Mr. Zeiger served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955 in the Korean conflict. He came to Goshen in 1965. He married Frances B. Goysich on Sept. 21, 1957 in Ambridge, Pennsylvania. She preceded him on April 16, 2001. Mr. Zeiger was a press operator and supervisor for Western Rubber Company. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the VFW Post 985. He is survived by a daughter, Tamara L. Zeiger of Goshen; a son, Thomas W. Zeiger of Livonia, Michigan; two grandsons, Andrew and Nicholas Zeiger; two sisters, Luba Dubinin and Lisa Drapeza, both of Goshen; a sister-in-law, Billie Goysich of Tupelo, Misssissippi; five nieces; and four nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances; an infant daughter, Julieanne; and a sister, Lida Zeiger. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday and 2 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a prayer vigil will be conducted at 6:00 p.m on Thursday. A 10 a.m., Friday, April 17, 2009, funeral mass will be conducted at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Goshen with the Rev. Father Christopher Smith and nephew US Army Chaplain Major Peter Dubinin officiating. Burial will take place at Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen with military honors provided by the VFW and DAV of Goshen. Memorials may be sent to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
