Vivian A. Goodman, 87, of Elkhart, died Saturday morning, September 3, 2011, at Beardsley House. She was born August 28, 1924 in Goshen, to the late Rev. Chester and May (Smith) Carpenter. She married Harold "Buzz" L. Goodman on April 6, 1947. He died June 2, 1976. She is survived by a daughter, Kimberly (Edward) McKibbin of Elkhart; three sons, Mark Goodman of Elkhart, Keith (Regina) Goodman of Goshen, and Major (USAF) Jon P. (Jeanette) Goodman, of Gainesville, Virginia; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, LaWanda Lung-Troup of Goshen; and a special friend of many years, Bob VanKlavern of Goshen. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael L. Goodman on May 24, 2001; and two brothers, Keith and Chester "Bud" Carpenter. A member of St. Marks United Methodist Church, Goshen, Mrs. Goodman worked as a secretary. She volunteered with the American Red Cross and enjoyed dancing the waltz. She was a proud mother of five and loved her dog, Cindy. Friends may call 9 to 11 a.m., Thursday, September 8, 2011,at St. Marks United Methodist Church, Goshen, where an 11 a.m. funeral service will be conducted. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Harbor Light Hospice or St. Marks United Methodist Church.
