Virginia M. Weldy Stahly

Virginia M. Weldy Stahly, 91, of Goshen, died Saturday, November 15, 2008, at Goshen General Hospital.   She was born in Mottville, Michigan, on January 7, 1917 to Harry and Agnes (Rahrig) Gordon.  She married Stahly I. Weldy in Nappanee on March 7, 1937.  He died August 12, 1975.  She married Gerald Stahly in October of 1976; he also preceded her in death.   A resident of Goshen since 1937, Mrs. Stahly worked as a homemaker.  She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking and knitting.  She also helped on the farm.  She was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and the Home Economics Club.   She is survived by a daughter, Carol (Jerry) Drake of Bakersfield, California; a son, Jim (Marcia) Weldy of Goshen; eight grandchildren, Dennis, Douglas, Chad, Ryan, and Jody Weldy, Susan Drake Jeffries, Laurie Weldy Hines, and Gail Drake Jennings; 16 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Jane (Estel) Fisher, of Bristol.   She was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Weldy; three sisters, Margaret Holden, Hilda Evans, and Welleda Plettner; and three brothers, John, Jim, and Merritt Gordon.     Friends may call 2 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, November 18, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.   A 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 19, 2008 funeral service will be conducted at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.  Pastor Michael Tarner will officiate.   Burial will be in South Union Cemetery, Nappanee.   Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
