Virginia "VeeVee" Vaughn, 91, of Middlebury, died Thursday morning, June 9, 2011, at her home. She had been ill the past two months. She was born in Goshen on March 13, 1920 to the late Warren and Mae (Wideman) Groff. Mrs. Vaughn is survived by two daughters, Ginger Stoddard of White Pigeon, Michigan and Candice (Randy) Troyer of Middlebury; a son, James (Jackie) Smith of Fort Pierce, Florida; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Venona Smoker of Tucson, Arizona, Alberta Hoogenboom of Elkhart, and Louise (Owen) Leek, Palm Bay, Florida; a sister-in-law, Billie Groff of St. Joseph, Tennessee; and longtime companion, Arthur Baer, Sr. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil and Jake Groff. A lifetime resident of this area, she was a member of Benton Free Baptist Church, Goshen, the American Legion Auxiliary, Middlebury, and the DAV Post #19, Elkhart. She was an avid blood donor with the American Red Cross since WWII, a homemaker and retired from Johnson Controls. Friends may call 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 14 at the funeral home. A 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 15, 2011, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral home with Rev. Lenny Krebs officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Run Cemetery, Goshen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Goshen Home Care and Hospice or to the veteran's organization of the donor's choice.
