Virginia R. Van Nuys, 86, of Goshen died Monday afternoon, May 11, 2015 at her home. She was born May 12, 1928 in Goshen to Albert A., Sr., and Iva Pearl (Immel) Overholt. On August 23, 1964 she married Carlton LeRoy Van Nuys at the First Bapist Church in Goshen. Rev. Maynard Kulp was the officiant. Survivors include a daughter, Helen (Jerry Wayne) Hodge, a grandson, Thomas A. Fry, both of Goshen and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Thelma Joyce Charles; a grandson, Jeremy Fry; six sisters, Madge Balyeat, Mildred Martin, Winnie Ostrom, Flossie Jones, Helen P. Hoover and Thelma Syndram; and two brothers, Albert and Robert Overholt. Virginia was a member at First Baptist Church, Goshen where she attended all of her life and was very involved with the children's program, teaching many years of Sunday school. A 1946 Goshen High School graduate, she worked as a bookkeeper for Riley Sales and Service and Newman Furniture before retiring from Mo Trailer in 1997. She enjoyed keeping in touch with her high school classmates. She was active in the Joy Keepers Red Hat Group and volunteered for 10 years at Ribbon of Hope at Elkhart General Hospital and the central health care unit at Greencroft. She enjoyed singing and playing the guitar and harmonica, winning the 2006 Elkhart County Fair Senior Citizen talent show. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday, May 14, 2015 at First Baptist Church, Goshen. Rev. James Shrock will officiate. Burial will follow at West Goshen Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to First Baptist Church, Goshen or Goshen Home Care and Hospice.
