Virgil R. Stafford, 66, of Goshen died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Goshen General Hospital. He was born on April 29, 1944, in Holden, West Virginia, to the late Jesse and Lessie (Adkins) Stafford. He married Marla Walton on November 22, 1969 at Goshen City Church of the Brethren. She survives. Also surviving are three sons, John, Fred, and Josh Stafford, all of Goshen; and two brothers, Carlos (Carol) Stafford of Lincoln Park of Michigan, and Dale (Agnes) Stafford of Florence, Alabama. Mr. Stafford worked at Western Rubber for 37 years and then at Homecrest for eight years. A sports fan, he was a fast pitch softball pitcher for many years in Goshen's fast pitch league. A Yankee fan, he enjoyed playing golf with his sons. He was also a very good woodworker, making furniture. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 14, at the funeral home, where an 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 15, 2010, funeral service will be conducted. After services the body will be cremated and burial will be at a later date in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
