Victor K. "Slim" Weiler, 84, of Middlebury, died early Wednesday morning, April 15, 2009, at Goshen General Hospital. He had been in failing health the past couple of years. He was born in LaGrange County, on March 15, 1925, to Loyal and Hazel (Ulrich) Weiler. He married Betty M. Cole on July 15, 1945 at Gunn Lake, Michigan. She survives. A graduate of North Adams High School in North Adams, Michigan, Mr. Weiler was a member of First Baptist Church, Goshen. Mr. Weiler moved to the area three years ago from Chino Valley, Arizona. He had worked as a district sales manager for Massey Ferguson in Arizona and southern California for 17 years. He also owned and operated his own farm machinery business for many years in Valley Center, California. While in Tucson, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tucson and served as captain of Tucson Sherriff's Department Posse for 15 years where he met Princess Margaret of England. He also bred and showed Boston Terriers for many years. He is survived by his wife, Betty; a daughter, Sheryl Lynn Steward of Mentone, California; a son, Loyal "Al" (Patty) Weiler of Calumet, Michigan; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Cook. Friends may call 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 22, at the First Baptist Church, Goshen, where Pastors Gregg Lanzen and Jim Shrock will officiate at an 11:00 a.m., funeral service. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Tucson, Arizona. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International.
