Vernon Jay Miller, 84, of Goshen, died Sunday, December 16, 2012, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne from complications of a brain hemorrhage. He was born February 21, 1928 in Middlebury to Joseph and Christena (Bender) Miller. He married Barbara Ellen Yoder, February 11, 1951 at Pleasant Grove Church. She survives along with two daughters, Sheryl (Richard) Mullet of Nashwauk, Minnesota and Sharla (Joe) Renshaw of Coldwater, Michigan; three sons, Steve (Karen) Miller and Stan (Elvera) Miller, both of Goshen and Scott (Cindy) Miller of Middlebury; 23 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruby Miller and Viola (Lee) Schmucker, both of Middlebury and Ida Ellen(Fred) Miller of Nashville, Arkansas; and two brothers, Melvin (Esther) Miller of Middlebury and Ora (Deb) Miller of Elkhart. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Barbara Bontrager Miller; a sister, Katie Schmucker; a brother, Omer Miller; and three grandchildren, Darrin, Douglas and A. J Miller. A farmer, Mr. Miller drove school bus for Fairfield Schools for 30 years. A member of Mt. Joy Mennonite Church, Goshen, he volunteered with MDS, Choice Books and Sarasota Food Bank. He loved his family and enjoyed farming, traveling and wintering in Florida. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 19, and again 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, December 20, 2012, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. A 10 a.m., Friday, December 21, 2012, funeral service will be conducted at Mt. Joy Mennonite Church, Goshen. Pastors Ben Shirk and Nelson Yoder will officiate. Burial will follow in Clinton Union Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be given to Gospel Echoes Prison Ministry or World Missionary Press.
