Vernon G. Goering, 73, of Goshen, died Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, from complications of pancreatitis.
He was born August 8, 1943 in Pretty Prairie, Kansas, to Walter and Doris L. (Schrag) Goering.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Anna (Ens) Goering of Goshen; three sons, Russell (Laurie) Goering of Howell, Michigan, Randall J. (Marianne) Goering of South Bend and Reginald Goering of Alexandria, Virginia; five grandchildren, Tristan, Bryton, Kamden, Ashlyn and Gloria; and three siblings, Violet (Larry) Ballard of Wisconsin, Vera (Tom) Davis and Larry Goering, both of Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Rodney and siblings, Leona Singleton, Vanita and Harry Goering.
He retired in 1997 after more than 40 years teaching in public schools. After retirement he did missionary education in Guatemala and Costa Rica.
Vernon was an active member of Pleasant View Mennonite Church, singing in a church quartet and participating in missions. He also sang in the MCC choir and enjoyed time with his grandchildren and traveling.
Friends may call Friday, July 28, 2017 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.
A private family graveside service will be held Saturday, July 29 at Pleasant View Cemetery, followed by an 11 a.m. public memorial service at the church, 58529 C.R. 23, Goshen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Pleasant View Mennonite Church or Mennonite Disaster Service.
