Verna Schmidlin, 66, of Goshen, passed away Monday, June 6, 2022, at her home surrounded by loved ones after a very courageous battle with cancer.
Verna was born February 15, 1956 in Plymouth, Indiana.
On August 16, 1980, Verna married her husband, David Schmidlin, in Warsaw, Indiana.
Her husband, David, survives along with her mother, Alice Louise (Jarvis) Wiskotoni of Punta Gorda, Florida; her four children, Brent Alan Schmidlin of Warsaw, John David (Elizabeth) Schmidlin of Goshen, Amanda Kay Schmidlin of Raeford, North Carolina, and Corey Lee Schmidlin of Taylors, South Carolina; her three beautiful grandchildren, Charlotte and Isabella Darby and Addison Schmidlin; and her six siblings, Debbie Marvel, Lana (Del Mar) Powers and Carol Rans, all of Punta Gorda, Florida, Alice (Marty) Oltman of Nappanee, and Patsy (Leonard) Brownlee and Joe Wiskotoni, both of South Bend.
She was proceeded in death by her father, William Lacher.
Verna was a devout Christian whose faith in God was never lost even in the toughest of trials, instead it only continued to grow. For over 20 years, Verna committed her time to her nursing career. Having the opportunity to share her infectious smile and her ever helping hand to those in need. Most of her career was spent here in Indiana at Greencroft and Miller’s Merry Manor, and for a short time in South Carolina at the Cottages of Bushy Creek.
When Verna was not working, she spent her free time either soaking up the sun on the porch swing with a cup of coffee in hand and the dogs at her feet, or embracing the hugs, the loves, the kisses, and the laughter from her grand-daughters. Verna also enjoyed reading, bowling, going on motorcycle rides, camping, traveling, and trying her hand at gardening.
On Saturday, June 18, 2022 a memorial service will be held at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Verna’s cousin, George Dockery and long-time family friend, Wade Sturdivant, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Goshen Home Care and Hospice, 1147 Professional Dr., Goshen, IN 46526; https://goshenhealth.com or American Cancer Society; https://www.cancer.org/ .
