Verna Mae Burkholder, 62, Goshen, died at 3:30 pm Monday, March 8, at her home. She had been ill almost three weeks. She was born May 13, 1947 in Newton County, Indiana to the late Calvin C. and Fannie (Mast) Yoder. On June 26, 1969, she married LaVern D. Burkholder, Sr. in Nappanee. He survives along with a daughter, Jolene (James) Yoder, Nappanee; three sons, Steve, Gary and LaVern, Jr. all of Garnett, Kansas; seven grandchildren; four sisters, Edna (John) Herz, Bradford, Tennessee, Sarah (Delbert) Chupp, and Erma (Gary) Troyer, both of Millersburg, and Irene (Lisle) Slabaugh, Bremen; and eight brothers, Henry (Jeanette) Yoder, Millersburg, Chris (Nancy) Yoder, Middlebury, Raymond (Waneta) Yoder, Dallas, Texas, Lester (Judy) Yoder, Goshen, Ervin Yoder, Bristol, Calvin, Jr., (Denise) Yoder, Syracuse, Weldon (Elnora) Yoder, Nappanee, and Fred (Dawn) Yoder, Wolcottville. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 12 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Maple City Chapel, Goshen. The Rev. Daniel Rodes of Truth Light and Life Ministries, Harrisonburg, Virginia will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Garnett, Kansas.
