Vern L. Leatherman, 72, of Goshen, died Thursday, September 24, 2015, at IU Health Goshen Hospital. He was born December 11, 1942 in Norfolk, Virginia, to Clifford Wayne and Agnes (Miller) Leatherman. On November 16, 1963 he married Janet K. Nafziger. She died in 1977. He later married Jane Miller who survives. Also surviving are his children, Douglas S. (Mary) Leatherman of Palatine, Illinois, Dawn Leatherman, Eric (Jeni) Leatherman and Justin (Holly) Leatherman all of Goshen, and Amy (Jesse) Berkey, Lebanon, Oregon; 13 grandchildren; his step-mother, Ruth Leatherman; and a sister, Sandy (Gerald) Kauffman of Middlebury. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet and son Cory Lynn; a sister, Darlene Sherck and a brother, Wayne Leatherman. Vern was a 1961 graduate of Goshen High School and member of East Goshen Mennonite Church, where he was involved in their mentoring program. He co-founded Leatherman Supply with his father in 1964 and was a lifetime member of the Home Builders Association. He enjoyed volunteering for Church Community Service in their homebound delivery program. Foremost in Vern's life was his family; he would do anything and everything for them. Friends may call Monday, September 28, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service on Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at East Goshen Mennonite Church. Pastor Merle Hostetler will officiate. Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be directed to East Goshen Mennonite Church or Riley Children's Foundation.
