Verla Mae Frey

Verla Mae Frey, 84, of Goshen, died late Wednesday morning, January 24, 2007, at Goshen General Hospital.  She had been ill since January 11.   She was born in Hopkins, Michigan, on April 6, 1922, to Alfred and Ethel (Dodson) Schuman.  She married W. Zale Frey on August 20, 1946 in Hopkins.  She died November 30, 1981.   Mrs. Frey studied at the County Normal College in Allegan, Michigan and North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.  She attended Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church, Goshen.   A resident of Elkhart County since 1966, Mrs. Frey taught in the Concord Schools at Southside Elementary and Oxbow Elementary from 1966 to 1980.  During the 1990’s she also taught in the one room schoolhouse in Bristol.  After her retirement in 1983 Mrs. Frey taught six months at the Rift Valley Academy in Kenya.    She is survived by four daughters, Karen (Gerald) Rasler of Goshen, Diane Frey of Pemberville, Ohio, Bonnie (Steve) Scholfield of Bristol and Judy Frey of Wheaton, Illinois; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Lee of Bangor, Michigan.   She was preceded in death by her husband and two sisters, Virginia VanderKolk and Esther Lodenstein.   Friends will be received 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, January 26, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church, Goshen.   An 11:00 a.m., service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2007, at the Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church.  A nephew, Rev. Roscoe Lee will officiate.   Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Goshen.   Memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan’s Purse of World Missionary Press.
