Verl O. Lehman, 92, of Goshen, died Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Greencroft Healthcare. He was born December 22, 1917, on his parents’ farm on County Road 38 in Harrison Township. Following his 1936 graduation from Wakarusa High School, he attended Goshen College. On September 1, 1940 he married Vesta Metzler, who predeceased him in 2005. He farmed until 1951 when the family moved to La Porte County where he was involved in ministry at the former Fish Lake Mennonite Church, a church plant of the Yellow Creek Mennonite Church. He also worked as a machinist for Screw Machine Products in La Porte. In 1980 the Lehmans retired in the Goshen area where he was involved in volunteer activities, including the World Missionary Press in New Paris and eight years with the volunteer chaplaincy program at Goshen General Hospital . He and his wife were among the early members of the Berkey Avenue Mennonite Fellowship where he was active member. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Bertha (Christophel) Lehman, his wife, and brother-in-law Warren Myers. He is survived by three daughters, Jean (Samuel) Moyer and Ruth Ann (Jared B.) Yoder, both of Goshen, and Carol (John Kampen) Lehman of Cincinnati; two sons, Larry Lee Lehman of Salem, and David E. (Dianne) Lehman of Goshen; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two step great- grandchildren; and two sisters, Eva Myers of Goshen, and Wilma Lehman of Auburn. Vistation will be 2-4 and 6-8 pm Saturday, September 11, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 3 pm Sunday, September 12, 2010, at Berkey Avenue Mennonite Fellowship, Goshen. Rev. Dan Schrock will officiate. Burial will be in Yellow Creek Cemetery, Goshen, prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Berkey Avenue Mennonite Fellowship or World Missionary Press.
