Verden "Bud" E. Ganger

July 10, 1922 — October 31, 2013

Verden E. "Bud" Ganger, 91, died October 31, 2013 at I.U. Health Goshen Hospital. He was born July 10, 1922 in Elkhart County to Homer and Rosa (Graybill) Ganger. He married Berniece Sommers, July 1, 1949 in Goshen. She died in 1990. He is survived by two children, Bruce (Peg) Ganger and Sandy (Mark) McCahill, both of Jacksonville, Florida; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dallas and Max Ganger; and a sister, Elizabeth Davenport. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and four siblings. A life-long resident of Goshen, he fought for his country in WWII and joined the VFW two weeks after his return from Europe in September 1945. He remained a VFW member until his death. Bud was a member of the Bristol United Methodist Church for more than 50 years, having served as a trustee and a faithful supporter. Bud loved to hunt and fish, and was a rabid Indiana University basketball fan. He came alive during college football and basketball seasons. His vegetable garden output is the thing of legends, and supplied everyone that knew him with tomatoes, green beans, onions, potatoes and more every year. He cared about living a good life, being a good friend and doing the right thing. He was very proud of his six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. A 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 4, 2013, memorial service will be held at the Bristol United Methodist Church, 201 S. Division Street, Bristol. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send a memorial gift in Bud's name to the Bristol United Methodist Church or VFW Post #985, 1201 West Pike Street, Goshen, IN 46526.
