Velorous J. Hoover

Velorous J. Hoover, 89, of Goshen, passed away late Sunday evening, January 4, 2015 at Courtyard Healthcare. She was born December 9, 1925 in Wakarusa to Ralph and Mabel (Hochstetler) Shaum. On May 13, 1945 she married Lowell W. Hoover in Nappanee. He died December 13, 2011. Survivors include four daughters, Karen Hoover of Goshen, Phyllis (Terry) Scanlon of Elyria, Ohio, Jean (Louis) Cheng of Charlottesville, Virginia and LaVonda Hoover of Anaheim, California; a son, Howard E. (Mary) Hoover of Lapeer, Michigan; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Carylin Chupp of Wakarusa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, L. Richard Hoover; a sister, Ruth Bradley and a brother, Wayne Shaum. A member of Benton Mennonite Church, Mrs. Hoover loved to quilt. She retired from driving school bus from Imlay City Schools. Friends may call Tuesday, January 6, 2015 from 4 to 6 p.m. and one hour prior to 2 p.m. funeral service on Wednesday, January 7, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastors Doug Kaufman and Brenda Meyer will officiate. Burial will follow in Elkhart Prairie Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Benton Mennonite Church.
