Velma Nisly Plank, age 90 years, one month and 22 days, of Goshen, passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020, in the home of her granddaughter where she had resided for her last nine days. Velma was born in Hutchinson, Kansas on October 15, 1930, to Eli and Alma Nisly. Velma was the second of fifteen children.
Velma was married to the late Joe Nisly on May 11, 1950. They had 10 children, Elnora (Gene) Miller of Goshen, Loretta (Ervin) Wengerd of Batesburg, South Carolina, Clayton (Thelma) Nisly of Cuenca, Ecuador, Regina (Jonas) Bontrager of Hutchinson, Kansas, Wilbur (Grace) Nisly of Corvallis, Montana, Sharon (Arlo) Schmidt of Toto, Karen (Ken) Dodd of Flint, Texas, Ron (Beverly) Nisly of Hutchinson, Kansas, Marilyn (John) Gingerich of Arthur, Illinois, and Marlin (Lucille) Nisly of Victor, Montana; 41 grandchildren and 73 great grandchildren.
After being a widow for seven years, Velma married Roy Plank of Bremen, Ohio, on December 20, 1975. Roy was the father of the late Beverly Grimm, Vera (Herb) Reed of Greenbelt, Maryland, Roberta Moore of Harrisonburg, Virginia and Stephen (Susan) Plank of Wakefield, Virginia. He had three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents; first and second husbands; brothers, Vernon and Willis Nisly, and a sister, Sylvia Nisly. She is survived by siblings Matilda Stutzman, Calvin, Harley, Wayne, Liz Bender, Dorothy Miller, Marvin, Elva Smith, Maynard, Merle and Sanford.
Velma was a homemaker all her adult life. She and Roy parented foster children for several years. They also volunteered in various mission endeavors, and in later years they worked as drivers for local Amish families.
Friends may call from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 12, 2020. The funeral service is at 11:00 followed by the burial. All will be at Pleasant Grove Mennonite Church, 13483 CR 38, Millersburg.
