Twyla Mae Haarer, 75, of Goshen, died Monday, December 26, 2016 at The Maples at Waterford Crossing after a 10 year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born February 24, 1941 in LaGrange County to Marvin and Susan (Bontrager) Kauffman.
On June 9, 1962 she married Daniel L. Haarer at 8th St. Mennonite Church in Goshen.
He survives along with a son, Brad J. (Arlynn) Haarer of Tampa, Florida; a daughter, Zoann F. (Tim) Wall of Goshen; two grandchildren, Chloe and Benjamin Wall; a step-granddaughter, Jenna Miller; a brother, Verl L. (Miriam) Kauffman of Goshen; and two sisters, Elnora (Ron) Rhine of Goshen and Eunice (Doug) Blodgett of Amboy, Illinois;
She was preceded in death by her parents and three grandchildren, Christian, Christopher and Nathaniel Wall.
Twyla graduated in 1959 from Millersburg High School and received an Associate’s degree from Akron University. A member of Silverwood Mennonite Church, she worked as an elementary school paraprofessional prior to her work as a patient account representative at Oaklawn.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Silverwood Mennonite Church, where an 11 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2016 memorial service will be conducted. Pastor Donna Mast will officiate.
The family wishes to express their deepest thanks to The Maples and Harbor Light Hospice for the care given to Twyla.
Her body was donated to IU Medical School in the interest of Alzheimer’s and anatomical medical education research.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts may be directed to Oaklawn Foundation for Mental Health or Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, www.curealz.org .
