Titus L. Martin, 91, of Goshen, died Tuesday afternoon, July 12, 2011, at Greencroft Healthcare, Goshen. He was born December 5, 1919, in Goshen to the late Frank and Martha (Lehman) Martin. He married Frances Darlene Frey on December 5, 1943 in Goshen. She survives. Also surviving are two children, Nancy E. (Donald) Detweiler of Goshen, and Terry S. (Kathleen) Martin of Knoxville, Tennessee; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Violet Culp of Goshen. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ivan Martin. A lifetime Goshen resident, Mr. Martin was a charter member of East Goshen Mennonite Church where he was instrumental in starting the church and served as superintendent, a "Visiting Brother", and taught summer Bible School. He served with Civilian Public Service for four years in Utah, Maryland, Illinois, and California. He was a hospice volunteer. Mr. Martin was self-employed as a painting contractor for 42 years with his own business, T. L. Martin Painting. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 15, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A prayer service for immediate and extended family will be held at the funeral home starting at 8:45 Saturday morning. Burial will follow at Yellow Creek Cemetery Goshen. An 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 16, 2011, memorial service is open to friends and family and will be at East Goshen Mennonite Church, Goshen, with Pastor Steve Slagel officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to East Goshen Mennonite Church or American Cancer Society.
