Thurl Dale Igney Sr., 90, of Elkhart, passed away on Wed. June 18, 2014, at the Elkhart Hospice House. He had resided at Eastlake Nursing Facility in Elkhart for several years. Mr. Igney was born May 21, 1924 in Fort Wayne to Cecil and Frances (Davidson) Igney. On September 7, 1946 he married Bettie Reimschisel. She survives along with five children, Thurl (Angie) Igney, Jr., of Mokena, Ill, Mark D. (Sue) Igney, of Westfield, Laura L. Stout, of Elkhart, Brianna J. (Robert) Rainbolt, of Elkhart, and Sheila K. (James) Brown, of South Bend; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Thurl was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Sam Igney; a granddaughter, Kelly Igney; three sisters and two brothers. Mr. Igney was a 1943 graduate of Central High School, Fort Wayne. He attended airplane mechanics school in Mississippi and served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WW II for three years with the 469th service squadron as a mechanic. He worked mainly on P-51 fighter planes. He was a member of the New Paris Church of the Brethren, VFW Post #985, American Legion Post #30, and the Teamsters Union. Thurl enjoyed discussing history, watching baseball and playing cards. Visitation will be one hour prior to the 4 pm funeral service Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Stan Godfrey will officiate. Burial with military honors will be at New Paris Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Blepharospasm Research Center, PO Box 12468, Beaumont, TX 77726-2468
