Thomas L. Strycker, 74, of Goshen, died Wednesday evening, August 13, 2014, at Elkhart Hospice House, where he had recently been admitted. He was born August 5, 1940 in Goshen to Clayton and Fay (Arnold) Strycker. On June 8, 1963 she married Judith L. Elijah. She died September 16, 2012. Surviving are three daughters, Paula Altenhof and Patty Jones, both of Goshen, and Rebecca (David) Guthart, of Rake, Iowa; a son, James D. Strycker, of Goshen; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dean (Janet) Strycker, of Peoria, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a sister, Virginia Bowers, and a brother, Richard Strycker. Mr. Strycker was a 1958 Goshen High School graduate and member of Goshen City Church of the Brethren. He retired in 1990 from UPS after 26 years with routes in Topeka and Goshen, with a retirement party and quilt presentation by the Amish community for his years of service in Topeka. He continued working at Modern Educational Systems until 2004. Tom enjoyed his free time working with wood projects. Friends may call from 12:30 pm - until the start of a 2 p.m. memorial service Sunday, August 17, 2014, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Burial will be at Violett Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana or the Paralyzed Veteran's Association.
