Thomas E. Marquis

Thomas E. Marquis, 78, of Goshen, died Thursday, July 12, 2018, at Courtyard Healthcare.

He was born November 14, 1939 in Goshen to Wilfred and Mary Ellen (Strock) Marquis.

On September 19, 1970 he married Kathy Ann Straub at First Presbyterian Church, Goshen.

She survives along with a daughter, Michelle (Carl) Marquis Hubbell of Goshen; a sister, Shirley Swartz of Goshen; a brother, Don Marquis of New Orleans, Louisiana and nieces and nephews: Stu Swartz, Margaret Kuiper & Sandy Swartz, all of Goshen and Sarah Brady of Mishawaka

A 1957 graduate of Goshen High School, Tom went on to graduate from Goshen College in 1961 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He served with the U.S. Army from 1962-68.

A lifetime Goshen resident, Tom worked 28 years for various banks in the Goshen community.  From 1973 to 77 he served as Goshen College Director of Community Relations.

An active member of the Goshen community, Tom served as president of the Goshen Jaycees in 1967, the Elkhart County 4-H Fair in 1972, the Goshen Chamber of Commerce in 1974 and the Goshen Historical Society from 1984 to 87. He also served as chairman of the Goshen Board of Zoning Appeals from 1976 to 1988 and as a trustee of the Goshen Public Library from 1992 to 1997.  He was a former member of the Goshen Elks.  During his retirement years in Sarasota, Florida, Tom enjoyed volunteering at Sarasota Institute of Lifetime Learning, Crowley Nature Center and The Players Civic Theatre.

A 1:30 p.m. graveside service with military honors will take place Friday, July 27, 2018 at Violett Cemetery, Goshen.  Rev. Father Anthony Steinacker will officiate.

Following the committal service there will be a reception from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Spring Brooke Clubhouse, 1618 Spring Brooke Dr., Goshen.

Cremation will take place at Yoder-Culp Crematory.

Memorial donation may be made to Mosaic Health and Healing Arts, Goshen Historical Society or Goshen Public Library.
