Thomas P. Kurtz, 72, of Elkhart, Indiana, died Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Elkhart General Hospital.
Tom was born February 24, 1948 in Elkhart, Indiana to Lester and Mildred (Hoke) Kurtz. He graduated from Constantine High School, Constantine, Michigan in 1966.
Soon after, he attended Olivet Nazarene College where he met Lucy Straw. They married on July 18, 1970 in Syracuse, Indiana.
Throughout his career; he worked many manual labor jobs to provide for his family. Tom continued his education at Bethel College and graduated in 1995. He stayed with manual labor and finished his career working in the maintenance department for Old Farm Apartments, but he also owned his own tax preparation business.
Tom was a member of Jimtown Family Church of the Nazarene where he was a trustee and the treasurer. When he wasn’t working, Tom enjoyed watching TV, watching football, and learning about history. He also enjoyed the outdoors, camping with his family, hiking, and he was interested in seeing trains, lighthouses, and covered bridges.
He is survived by his wife Lucy along with their children, Tammy Grandstaff of Bristol, Indiana, Susie Kurtz of Elkhart, Indiana, Daniel (Sharon) Kurtz of Elkhorn, Nebraska and Michelle (Robert) West of Elkhart; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Kurtz, his mother, Mildred M. (Hoke) Kurtz Tschupp, and all of his siblings.
A private family service took place at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home in Goshen, Indiana.
A memorial service will be planned for a future time and place along with burial in West Goshen Cemetery.
