Thomas Darwin Kintigh, 94, of Goshen died Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Courtyard Healthcare.
He was born July 22, 1926 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Thomas C. and Helen V. (Kyler) Kintigh. The family moved to Goshen in 1934 and Tom graduated in 1944 from Goshen High School.
Immediately after high school he joined the U.S. Army and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater with the 381 st infantry 96 th division.
He married Marilyn A. Messick on August 27, 1949. She died May 8, 1971. Tom married Marilyn M. Halderman, July 19, 1974. She died December 17, 2005.
Survivors include a daughter, Lee Ann (Todd) Cripe of Goshen; son, Daniel (Kay) Kintigh of Bristol; step-daughters, Kathy Krazit of New Bern, North Carolina and Linda Halderman of Rapid City, South Dakota; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents and two wives, he was preceded in death by his oldest son, Patrick and a great-granddaughter, Zoey.
Tom received his bachelor’s degree from Goshen College in 1950 and retired in 1990 from Johnson/Penn Controls after 40 years of service as a senior buyer of raw materials.
Tom was a life-time member of the VFW Goshen Post 985, American Legion Goshen Post 30, DAV Goshen Post 9, Goshen Moose Lodge 836, and the Johnson Controls Retiree Club. A former charter member of the Maplecrest Country Club and former 58-year member of the Goshen Elks Lodge 798. He attended the First Presbyterian Church of Goshen.
Tom was proud of being a prominent member of the only Goshen High School track team to win the Elkhart County Sectional in 1943. He was also quite proud of the records he held for the Half Mile, One Mile, and Two Mile runs when he graduated. He was honored to be named the Honorary Referee of the 65 th running of the Goshen Relays in 2007. Tom loved golf, was a New York Yankee baseball and Notre Dame football fan.
Friends may call Monday, April 5, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.
A 10 a.m. memorial service with military honors will be conducted Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home with burial to follow at Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
