Thomas Joseph Gerwels, 62, of Elkhart, passed away at his home early Wednesday afternoon, July 31, 2013. He was born September 27, 1950 in Goshen to Charles and Frances (Beres) Gerwels. He is survived by five sisters, Eileen (Patrick) Mulroy of Elkhart, Julie (Thomas) Shediac of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Mary (Robert) Carmody of Scottsdale, Arizona, Frances (Jerry) Hostetler of Shipshewana and Christine (John) Weiland of Downingtown, Pennsylvania; and six brothers, Charles of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, Paul (Mary) of Bristol, David (Nita) of Goshen, Michael of Elkhart, Edward (Erin) of Bristol and Joe (Mary Claire) Gerwels of Austin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Gerwels. He was a member of ADEC and Mosaic. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the 10 a.m., Saturday, August 3, 2013, funeral mass at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Goshen. Rev. Father Tony Steinacker will officiate. Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made The Mosaic Group.
