Terry Shappell, 71, of Goshen died at home Saturday afternoon, March 21, 2015. He was born August 28, 1943 in Lima, Ohio to Adrian and Kathryn (Guthrie) Shappell. On August 28, 2005 he married Helen Edeburn in Las Vegas. She survives along with his son, Michael E. (Amy) Shappell, of Seattle; his daughter, Mindelle S. (David) Morelli, of Columbus, Ohio; a step-son, Ronald M. (Dana) Seech, of Tijeras, New Mexico; a step-daughter, Bonnie (Jerry Leonard) Dailey, of Greenville, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Christopher and Samantha Shappell; five step-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; a brother, Gary Dean, of Elida, Ohio; and a sister, Anita K. Shappell, of Cridersville, Ohio. He worked at Archbold Equip., Topeka, and at the Mica Shop in maintenance and delivery. Terry's main occupation and gift in life was working as a mechanic for the "World of Outlaw Racing" sprint cars. At various times in his career he spent time as head mechanic for many in the racing world including; Dave Blaney, Kenny Jacobs, Danny Smith, Jac Haudenschield, Brad Doty, Joe Gaerte and Mark Kinser. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, and from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Bayliff & Sons Funeral Home, 311 W. Main St., Cridersville, Ohio, followed by a 7 p.m. funeral service. Rev. Warren Sullivan, Terry's brother-in-law, will officiate. Cremation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
