Sylvester Allen

Sylvester “Sil” Allen, 78, of Elkhart, died Thursday evening, December 27, 2007, at Greencroft Healthcare in Goshen. He was born April 23, 1929, in Newland, Indiana, to Richard and Virgie (Brown) Allen.  He married Connie Lee Pontius on August 30, 1953 in Claypool, Indiana.  She survives. An Elkhart resident for over 40 years, Mr. Allen had served as Chief Financial Officer and Partner at Todd Allen Design for ten years.  Prior to that, he had worked at Bock Industries in Elkhart as Controller for more than 20 years. A 1947 graduate of Silver Lake High School, Mr. Allen served in the US Air Force from 1948 to 1952.   He graduated from International Business College in Fort Wayne.  He attended River Oaks Community Church in Goshen.  He was a devoted grandfather, investing his time and affection with his family. He is survived by his wife, Connie; two sons, Richard Todd Allen of Bristol and Scott Ryan (Kimberly) Allen of Elkhart; three granddaughters, Adriana Leigh, Natalie Elizabeth, Bella Michelle; two grandsons, Jude Ryan and Aaron Todd; a sister, Carol Jean Rabel of Nappanee; and a sister-in-law, Bernadean “Deannie” Allen of Warsaw. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Allen. Friends may call 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, December 30 at the funeral home. A 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 31, 2007, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Pastor Scott Tilley of the River Oaks Community Church will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to River Oaks Music Ministry
